Some small things make life good in a big way.
And you know who you are.
No, wait, I’m not talking about that kinda things. I’m talking about these kinda things:
And This:
There isn’t much that can make Kind of Blue better. I’ve heard it on $50,000 stereo systems, and on thousand dollar headphones. I’ve also heard it on shitty PC speakers though.
I tell you, for tiny, tiny little headphones, you really can’t make this album sound much better. Not without spending literally thousands.
And frankly, music doesn’t get better than Kind of Blue. It just doesn’t. There’s a lotta music out there and I like pretty damned near all of it, from hardcore punk to acoustic folk, from free jazz to prog rock to funk to speed metal to show tunes.
And I can’t think of a single album that is ahead of this on my must-have, desert island disks. I could write a book on this album if someone hadn’t beaten me to it. So instead I’m just going to turn it up and play it again through these fantastic little headphones.
I am now experiencing headphone envy. Great album, btw.
DN, if you’re ever in the market for great headphones of any kind, talk to the folks at Headroom (http://www.headphone.com) – they’re awesome, they know their stuff, and they’ll do thier best to take care of you. I found these phones for way less than Headroom’s price elsewhere and Headroom cut me a stellar deal.
I went with these because I need gym headphones, and the ear buds with my nano – while sounding pretty good – just fall outta my ears. I didn’t want big external phones for the gym, I’ll just knock ’em off, so I went with IEMs (In Ear Monitors), and these jumped out as most bang-for-buck.
very cool. Thank you for the info. I’m getting my iPod (yay!) and will need new buds (already decided that). And it’s always good to have a line on good things 🙂
The Etys are nice, but they seemed fragile. I returned them and bought a pair of Shure E3c headphones. Much beefier and the sound (at least to me) was just as slightly better. Same idea – they go in your ears, and it’s amazing – I can hear the tape hiss, something I’ve never experienced with such tiny headphones.
I’ll never go back to regular earbuds or big noise cancelling headphones again. Try them the next time you fly – you’ll be amazed at exactly how much ambient noise they block.
The E3c get great reviews, but they’re about $50 more than the etys, so I went with that. I’m pretty damned happy. They don’t beat my Grado RC2s but then nothing can, at any price.
As silly as it sounds, I love being able to understand geekspeak.
