Crazy Pig Designs finally updated their website. Which is good, it means there are a lot more/better pictures.

Alas, it’s a pain to navigate, and a pain to link to. Looks nice though.

For the full experience, as designed, go see www.crazypigdesigns.com/. If you don’t wanna wait for it, go direct to the the pictures.

I’m tellin’ ya, I gotta get me some CrazyPig. Soon as I can scrape together cash for a frivolous just-for-me purchase…

Damn You, Slava!

A reader names Slava, one of many who seem to wind up here because of a search on skull rings, pointed me to a site called Bill Wall Leather.

A reader named Slava, one of many who seem to wind up here because of a search on skull rings, pointed me to a site called Bill Wall Leather.

I curse Slava for doing this, because…

Well.

Want. Want. Really want. And more want.

Slava pointed me there to look at Bill’s skull rings, but I don’t really like the skulls much. They suffer from the classic ‘make the skull scary’ problem which is exactly what I don’t like in skull rings. They’re nicely done, but don’t particularly suit my aesthetic. But go, take a look at his site. Most excellent stuff.

Clapton Skull

I talked to the makers a while back and they said they were out of business, or not taking orders, or something. I forget what. I was bummed.

So then I went on that obsessive hunt for a skull ring. Which lead me to this spectacular piece by Tony Creed, as well as a lot of other rings I want eventually.

But I was still bummed. That Clapton ring was pretty special — it looked like an actual skull, which was really unique. Maybe not as rock n’ roll as the rings from CrazyPig, sure, not as arty as the 8-ball skull (FateBall, I think they called it), and nowhere near the raw energy and nuttiness of Tony Creed.

And then, what do you know, I get mail from Lionrhod at Serious(asshole)Silver.com, and they’re not out of business at all. They had some sort of production or other business problems, I never got the details, but they’re taking orders again.

So I put my money down.

Now, they were not quick. It took about three weeks longer than I expected; I think they’re still having some trouble with production. But I got my ring tonight, and damn, is it pretty.

Clapton Skull-1

Now, it’s not my Tony Creed ring. I mean, Elvis Lives, baby. That’s made special, just for me. No ring will replace it. I can’t even say I’ll wear this one every day, it’s really heavy. But I’m pretty fucking pleased.

And I still want more. But then, I’m all about wanting more. Ask around.

TC’s website updated

My favorite crazy-rocker-jewery-maker, Tony Creed, just updated his website. It renders correctly on Safari now (Yay!), and he’s got some new jewelry. I love this guy’s work. I really need another piece by him but I can’t decide which one. I’m terribly fond of this, but there are a bunch of others I’m tempted by. […]

I love this guy’s work. I really need another piece by him but I can’t decide which one. I’m terribly fond of this, but there are a bunch of others I’m tempted by. Though I need to hold off a bit; there are too many other skull rings I want, including one from CrazyPig, and the Clapton skull which I hope to get any day now.

Anyway, if you’re looking for something unique and custom, talk to Tony. He’s my kind of madman.

Elvis Lives

Final chapter in the skull ring story.

I wrote recently about Tony Creed.

Today, after being assured that I wasn’t going to get a ring for xmas, this showed up in a small black box under my tree:

Skullfist-5

Tony Creed rules. Take a look at what it says under the eye sockets in the skull. That’s right, Elvis Lives. Tony did that because he wanted to, because he liked my name and wanted to make a ring that said “Elvis”. We didn’t know that’s what we were getting; we just ordered the 13.

I’d buy more jewelry from Tony in a minute. The dude’s just cool. The ring is beautiful. Exactly what I wanted.

Surprisingly hard to find, actually. You wouldn’t think so, but almost to a one, they’re all ugly, with a garish “let’s make it scary” look. All I want is a ring that really looks like a skull.

This is made worse by the fact that Iggy Pop recently released an album called Skull Ring. So any web search tends to lead to Iggy.

I found some good ones, finally. Still not that Clapton one, and damn SeriousSilver for going out of business. But some really good ones.

Skull Me!

Dammit.

Don’t you hate when you find exactly what you’ve been looking for and you can’t have it?

No, dear, I’m not talking about you. I could be though.

I’ve been looking for a really cool skull ring. I have big hands and I need a substantial ring; I hate stuff that’s made to look scary, or monstery. I hate the ‘vampire skull’ stuff, the alien skulls.

I want something that’s heavy, silver, artistically designed, and looks like a real skull.

This fucking thing was perfect. Based on an actual ring Clapton has, or had, it was the right look, the right sort of size and weight, and reasonably priced.

And the damned company went out of business. Without taking down their web site. Fuckers.

So I’m back to shopping. If anyone’s seen a ring like that (realistic skull, now, not stupid GWAR shit), get me a pointer to it, or if you know a jeweler who could copy that ring from a picture (I know, but they went out of business, it seems fair…), send me a name.

Damn. I’m peeved. That was gonna be my xmas present.
